Beveled Glass panels in the front entry had been removed when the Barrs purchased the home. They found what was left of the original panels in pieces in the garage. One of the panels was fairly complete save for a few broken pieces. The other panel was missing approximately one half of the original pieces. Missing pieces were cut from quarter inch glass and beveled in-house on our equipment by Bruce Troeh and Gary Smith. Both panels were completely rebuilt in our studio. Records are being researched to see who on our staff did the reassembly. Installation by Steve Daley.
At left is paintwork detail from the window. Figurative paintwork has been typical to residential and ecclesiastical work throughout the history of stained glass, dating back hundreds of years. Gary Smith executed the paintwork on this project.
Gary and Nancy Barr contacted us in early 1990 to help with restoration work on their historic home in Independence, Missouri. Pictured at left is one of the main projects. The work is a reproduction of a piece original to the residence. The original window had been sold and removed sometime prior to the Barr's purchase of the home. Gary and Nancy were able to locate the original and tried to purchase it back but the current owner was unwilling to sell. They did, however, get photographs. These photographs were used to reproduce the work. Steve worked with the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company to procure glass matching the original. Layout and paintwork on the window was by Gary Smith. Cutting and glazing by Dan Tillman. Gary Barr, client and new friend, is pictured with the completed work just prior to installation.
